New AD Proposed for Taylorcraft A, B, and F ModelsThe FAA this week proposed to adopt a new airworthiness directive (AD) for Taylorcraft A, B, and F models requiring inspection of the wing strut attach fittings for corrosion or cracks. This is in addition to the earlier AD issued in October 2007 issued to inspect the wing struts themselves. (That AD was just revised on February 22, 2008, as Taylorcraft AD 2008-04-09.) If any corrosion or cracks are found in the wing strut attach fitting, repair or replacement would be required. If not corrected, this condition could result in failure of the wing strut attach fittings and lead to wing separation and loss of control. The proposed AD comes after analysis of data collected from an accident involving a Taylorcraft Model BF12-65 airplane, in which a wing separated from the airplane after the wing strut attach fitting failed due to corrosion. The FAA invites the public to submit comments, written relevant data, views, or arguments regarding this proposed AD. To submit comments visit www.regulations.gov. Comment deadline is March 21, 2008. EAA’s government relations department and VAA will review the wing strut attach fitting NPRM and will solicit input from Taylorcraft type clubs before submitting its comments to the FAA. |
